Why do you make an excellent "Tech Ninja"?
Because I know how to be stealthy and trick teachers into using more technology! It's my mission to sneak technology into their plannins sessions without them realizing and WOW them with my ninja technology abilities! Once they see what is possible, they can't stop wanting more!
What are some of your favorite Web 2.0 tools, and why?
All things Google (Drive, Calendar, Presentation, Drawing, Forms) because they help teachers learn one approach/ skill and apply it across many different tools. (and it helps me translate things in Spanish when I'm really stuck! :) )
Edmodo because it is an easy way to help teachers and students learn the power of collaboration and sharing while being in a safe(er) social media environment.
Twitter because it is truly the most powerful professional development tool out there. It breaks down classroom walls and opens up the world of learning to teachers.
Scoop it/ pinterest because I believe that curation is one of the most important skills that teachers and students need to develop to be competent 21st century workers/ learners. Without the ability to thoughtfully assess sites/ resources when we have a wealth of information at our fingertips, students and teachers will not be able to bridge the information gap and begin owning the information around them.
Piktochart because processing information and remixing it with your own focus is an essential skills for a 21st century teacher or student. It is essential that we all develop our critical thinking and synthesis skills if we are to survive in the information rich society in which we are currently living. Making infographics helps consumers become producers and process information in multiple layers and manners.
There's more but I feel like I've written enough for now!! :)
Why is technology important in education?
I believe that technology is more than important, it is essential. As we are well into an information rich society, it is critical that we teach students from an early age how to find, process, think about, and share thoughts and opinions regarding the information that they encounter each day. Technology is the medium that facilities this sharing and students must learn how to do this sharing appropriately and safely to be productive, contributing members to the information flow.
