Why do you make an excellent "Tech Ninja"?
I love technology and it has become my passion over the last year to truly see classrooms transformed with an infusion of technology. I started out as a 4th grade math/science teacher who began using an iPad and an Apple TV to enhance and then transform my classroom last year and this year was hired as an ITS.
Additionally, I am finishing my Masters in EdTech at Azusa Pacific University this year. I also started a group called "The Tech Amigos" recently to encourage a group of my friends to take the next step and challenge them to develop their skills further in helping teachers and students really infuse technology into their classrooms.
I have also done iPad trainings and formative assessment trainings across the state of Texas and am presenting one session at ISTE 2014 this summer and three sessions at TCEA Tots and Technology this summer.
What are some of your favorite Web 2.0 tools or apps, and why?
Smore is one of my favorite tools to use to create fun visually friendly training handouts and emails.
Aurasma has become a more and more meaningful application on my campus this year as teacher's have discovered truly how to use Aurasma to increase student understanding and engagement.
I also love Thinglink for adding digital layers.
Why is technology important in education?
Technology is vital to seeing students become successful learners who reach their full potential in life. Too often we settle for a little technology use or substitution level technology use and we end up turning amazing devices into glorified game devices or notepads.
Through technology, students eyes and minds are opened into a world that is so much larger than their actual experience every day in life. They can see the world that is out there that is not so big anymore. Through technology, these students can create, collaborate and curate ideas that were not previously possible and literally leave a mark on this world that will last a life-time.
