Why do you make an excellent "Tech Ninja"?
I am a rising star Tech Ninja! I love technology and thrive on it daily! I use it daily in my classroom and I am always looking for the next cool thing to share with my students. I know the world is changing and so should my classroom! My kids love the technology we use and they know we are different than many other classes. I am always testing out new sites with them and let them tell me what they like and why!
What are some of your favorite Web 2.0 tools, and why?
My first go-to tool is Edmodo! I love it! I think every teacher should use this site! My parents love how easy it is to get in contact with me. Bypass the front office and my email and send me a message that goes directly to my phone! I also love Prezi. My students think that Prezi is the only way to go when I present something new! I am also loving Story Bird! This is a great way to teach kids how to write and publish creatively! I also love using Class Dojo. This app is something my students thrive on. They love earning points and being able to track their progress with the graphs and weekly reports. I am new to Skype Education, but it is my new favorite! I love the idea of pen pals, but now it is so much better! We don't write letters anymore, but instead we Skype. So why not keep up with the times when we learn something new! My school was chose to pilot the Bring Your Own Technology Program in our county. I am volunteering to be one of the classrooms that embrace this! I hope that by applying and staying in touch with all the new tools, that I will have a lot to share with my students next year!
Why is technology important in education?
Technology is important in education because times are changing! My students have IPads and IPhones, Nooks and Kindles. Who am I to keep everything pencil and paper! Kids are using these things to communicate and learn at home and I can keep them actively engaged when I show them a new website I found for them to explore! I believe that I am changing with the times. I think I am open to anything and willing to grow with my students. I don't know everything out there, but students use technology when they go home, so they have a lot to teach as well!
I would love to spread the 3 Tech Ninjas throughout Georgia! I have never heard of this site and think that I need to spread the word! I am all about collaboration and sharing what I find! More teachers need to be ready and willing to share because we are all trying to achieve the same goal!
